Holiday cheer is contagious! A holiday is typically a day set apart by custom or legislation in which normal daily activities, particularly work or school including church, are curtailed or suspended. In general, such holidays are meant to allow people to celebrate or commemorate some event or tradition of historical or cultural importance. Holidays are considered to be days of joy and happiness, which give way to rest and relaxation.


It is common for many individuals to enjoy their vacations in the United States during the Christmas holiday, Easter, Independence Day and Thanksgiving. The four most popular holidays in the United States include Easter Monday, July Fourth, Labor Day and Thanksgiving. When it comes to the holidays in the United States, there is always something for everyone. There are a number of types of holidays prevalent in the United States such as official national holidays, county days, state days and local holidays.

Many communities around the world observe different public holidays each year with different names and dates. Some of the more popular public holidays in the United States include National Volunteer Week, President’s Day, Good Friday, Flag Day, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. In addition to the four major holidays celebrated in the United States, many other countries also have major public holidays with different names and dates. For example, Australia has two separate days recognized as Easter, while it observes a public holiday on the second Monday of April, while the United Kingdom has a separate breed of public holidays known as “Mardi Gras” or “Stag Week”.

One of the more common ways to celebrate Holidays in the United States is by using federal holidays to award workers with paid time-and-a-half. Millions of federal employees are entitled to compensation for time worked. This applies to all employees of the U.S. government, not just those in the military. Employees may be awarded time-and-a-half pay for all holiday pay during the four traditional working holidays. However, some positions are excluded from time-and-a-half compensation for these federal holidays.

Employers are not required to give federal holidays off. However, if an employer chooses to give employees paid time-and-a-half pay on these days, the employee must take the time to request this alternative. The process for requesting time-and-a-half pay for federal holidays is much the same as for other holidays. If you wish to make a claim for holiday pay, you will need to fill out an application that will include your name, address, contact details and your annual salary. You will also need to provide copies of pay stubs, cancelled checks or pay slips showing your regular and consecutive hours of work.

Many employees who use time-and-a-half pay when working federal holidays may not fully realize how much they are truly getting for their time. To make sure that you receive the full amount of holiday pay that you deserve for all of your hard work, you should follow the same process when filing your holiday pay paperwork. When you file your paperwork with your employer, make sure to include any photos or proof of hours worked. The federal holidays when many of the most well-liked holidays occur typically coincides with religious holidays and may not give you the same amount of paid time-and-a-half pay as you would get working during a religious holiday.
